Nutritional Services 

The Dietary Department provides nutritionally balanced meals to enhance the health of the resident. Meal times are considered to be a social activity; therefore residents are encouraged to attend the dining room to enjoy a tasty, nutritious home-style meal. Menus are planned by the Food Service Manager and the Registered Dietitian and are based on Canada’s Food Guide. We offer a variety of balanced meals. The menu items reflect the choices of our residents, the seasons and festive celebrations. The menu is written on a whiteboard in the dining room before each meal. A copy of the four week menu is posted beneath the menu board in the main dining room.

​The main meal is served at lunch, consisting of a hot main entree with vegetables and a starch. A lighter meal is served in the evening, and always includes one of our delicious, home-made soups. 

​Resident’s nutritional needs are assessed on an ongoing basis by the Registered Dietitian - this enables staff to offer additional assistance as required based on the Registered Dietician's recommendations.

Residents and their families are encouraged to attend tea time each day held in the main lounge.Tea, coffee, juice, and homemade cookies are provided. This service is complimentary to guests. Tea time is daily at 11 AM & 2:45 PM & 8 PM

Families are welcome to bring in a birthday cake to be shared with residents in the lounge – please bring paper plates, plastic forks and napkins to this type of event.

Please do not share any food with residents who you are unfamiliar with – many have dietary needs related to health conditions. If you wish to share food with residents please check with dietary staff to ensure that it is safe for their consumption. 

Residents may invite friends and family members to join them for lunch or supper.  A request to attend a meal must be made to the reception desk at the front lobby (in person, or call 250-537-5561, ext. 221) within the following time frames:

  • Regular weekday 24 hours in advance
  • Regular weekend by Thursday at noon
  • Federal/Provincial holiday weekend by Wednesday at noon

A ticket for each meal must be purchased in advance at the reception desk in the lobby Monday through Friday 8 AM to 3 PM and tickets are sold in sets of 5 (please speak to the receptionist for the current fee per meal).​

Please check-in with the dietary worker in the dining room and present your ticket(s) when you arrive. We are limited to 5 guests per meal in the dining room and our primary focus will always be on the residents so your patience is required and appreciated. Large family groups are welcome to book the Madrona room for family celebrations. Please check with the receptionist regarding availability. We do not provide meal or snack services with the Madrona room so if you have booked this room please make arrangements for refreshments and/or meals for your group.
